These are the top beauty trends of the year. This year has been one of experimenting. These beauty trends represent being bold while also reintroducing 90’s aesthetics. From the Graphic eyeliner to the ethereal-looking pastel eyeshadow trend, here are my top favourite makeup looks of the year so far.
Graphic Eyeliner and Eyeshadow
To create a graphic liner all you need is your imagination and a pigmented liner. This can be whatever you want it to be; A precise yet dramatic pop of colour, like the one I created in this post or loose and curvy lines and shapes. I used NYX cosmetics’ vivid brights liner for this look. The one I had originally used has been discontinued but the crème liner works just as well, if not better.
Breathable Skin
A minimal base is a thing this year. natural looking and glowing skin has taken over, compared to full coverage of everything in previous years. Wearing small amounts of face makeup or none while allowing your natural skin to shine through (make sure you moisturize) is one trend I’m all for. However, I still love a good full coverage, baked-to-perfection makeup look now and then. My favourite medium coverage foundation at the moment is the CoverFX power play foundation.

Colourful Lashes
This is a revamped version of the colourful mascara trend from way back, it’s a fun new way to experiment with eye looks even if your eyeshadow or graphic liner game isn’t that strong yet. You can purchase these or create them at home using gel liners or colourful eyeshadow bases such as Plouise Base’ic Brights.
Glossy Lids
When I first came across this trend on YouTube, I had to try it. This look is very subtle yet dramatic and very simple to do with eyeshadow and lip gloss, that’s it. I must say, this is not a look I would recommend wearing for long periods as some lip glosses lose their shine over time, and who wants to constantly keep reapplying? Avoid hugging as much as you can, it’s easy to forget you’ve got colourful, glossy lids. I used the Take Me to Brazil Palette and gloss.
pastels and neon
A Pastel wonderland. Using soft pastel colours to create a whimsical blend of shadows on your lid or choosing only one shade to apply to the inner corner of your eyes are two ways pastel eyeshadow can be worn to make eyes pop. I enjoyed creating this look because of its simplicity yet vividity. I used the Jaclyn hill and Take Me Back to Brazil Palettes.
Natural Brows
Beauty trends are constantly evolving, and the same goes for brows. It’s hard to keep up with them, but that doesn’t mean you have to give in to every single trend, do whatever makes you the most comfortable. This brow trend along with breathable skin is about going back to the basics and working with what you have. A very minimalistic approach by either using light pencils/powders or simply using a spoolie on your natural brows and heading out the door. Products used; Elf Cosmetics Brow Lift Pencil and ABH Clear Brow Gel.
Gems and embellishments
Due to Euphoria’s vast impact on the beauty community, gems are now a staple; on red carpets or even as everyday wear, adding gems or even a swipe of glitter placed under the eyes is a great way to add a personal touch or switch things up. Shop rhinestones and glitter.
There it is all the top beauty trends of the year. I’m looking forward to seeing what trends arise in the future.
