Best products to remove dark spots
Beauty of Joseon glow serum
When I was first starting out with Korean skincare, the Beauty of Joseon Glow Serum was one of the first ones I bought.
It had everything I wanted in a serum; It boasted to enhance radiance, calm irritated skin and improve uneven skin tone. Plus, it was a top-rated product on Amazon and a Korean skincare fan favourite.
Featuring niacinamide and 0.5% BHA, it gently exfoliates while targeting acne-prone skin and providing a glowy finish. I’ve since added many more serums to my repertoire, but I always find myself going back to the Beauty of Joseon Glow Serum whenever my skin needs a boost of brightness and glow.
This serum is lightweight, non-sticky, and has a honey-like consistency that absorbs really well. In terms of effectiveness, it’s not the strongest dark spot-correcting serum out there, but it’s a great starting point at a great price.
Another bonus? You can purchase the set duo, including the ginseng serum, which helps to improve acne scars, for under $30 here.
Anua Azelaic Acid 10 Hyaluron Redness Soothing Serum
This Anua Azelaic Acid Serum is a gentle, lightweight formula designed to calm and soothe irritated, inflamed skin while reducing redness. It’s one of the brand’s most popular products for good reason.
Formulated with 10% azelaic acid and hyaluronic acid, this serum is suitable for sensitive skin types. It’s cruelty-free, vegan and has no artificial fragrances.
AXIS Y Dark Spot Correcting Glow Serum
The AXIS Y Dark Spot Correcting Serum is lightweight and suitable for all skin types. This Korean skincare serum is vegan and formulated with 5% Niacinamide, Squalane, and botanical extracts like papaya and sea buckthorn.
It hydrates and evens out skin tone, visibly fades dark spots, hyperpigmentation, and post-acne marks without irritation. It is also pretty affordable, with prices ranging from $13 to $28.
Anua peach 70% niacinamide serum
This Anua serum is a peach-toned, lightweight, smooth serum that helps to improve the appearance of dull-looking skin. Infused with niacinamide, it hydrates, brightens, and combats uneven skin tones, providing a radiant complexion.
I’ve personally used this product and enjoyed it. While it did give me a brighter more radiant finish, it has honestly not made that dramatic of a difference when it comes to dark spots. It is, however, still a great serum to have, especially if looking for that glowy and bright look.
It currently goes for $20 to $25.
Cos de Baha Tranexamic Acid Serum
This soothing serum is infused with Tranexamic Acid 5%, Niacinamide 5%, Hyaluronic Acid & Aloe for Dark Spots & Uneven Tone. It targets stubborn hyperpigmentation, dark spots and melasma while reportedly reducing sensitivity to UV rays. It is recommended for everyday use for best results.
This product is highly rated and currently priced between $10 to $16.
Tatcha brightening serum
The Tatcha brightening serum is made with a 12-hour time-release vitamin C and ferulic acid that targets hyperpigmentation while providing firmer and brighter skin. It also helps to “refine skin texture, boost elasticity, and enhance radiance while providing deep hydration,” according to Tatcha.
This serum is not sticky, has a great texture and feels great on the skin, but the cost is a little on the pricey side. The 10ml/0.34fl oz bottle is around $34, while the 30ml/1.0fl oz full-sized bottle goes for $89.
Murad dark spot corrector serum
The Murad dark spot corrector serum is a lightweight gel-like serum that absorbs easily into the skin. It visibly brightens and fades dark spots reportedly in as quickly as 14 days according to Murad.
Containing Tranexamic Acid and Glycolic Acid, this serum targets hyperpigmentation, stubborn dark patches, age spots, and post-acne marks.
Consistency is key with this serum. It is much more effective when used daily. The current price for 9.7ml/0.33fl oz is $26 and for the 30ml/1.0fl oz is $84
